Asthma and Cannabis

By Karina Macias

Asthma is a respiratory disease characterized by narrowing and swelling of the airways (bronchi), which causes the secretion of phlegm; this secretion worsens the airway obstruction. Asthma can be reversible if it is diagnosed and treated early; but if this is not the case, it could be aggravated and even result in death for those who suffer it. Frequent symptoms of an asthma attack:

_Opression or pain in the chest

_Lack of air

_Coughs or whistling when breathing in some cases which is audible

In some cases, the symptoms of asthma get worse depending on some situations:

1. - Allergic asthma: it is caused by substances or certain particles such as dust, pollen, certain foods, particles of the skin of pets, etc.

2. - Asthma from exercise: symptoms range from mild chest tightness and coughing to significant wheezing and dyspnea. It is believed that when the person exercises and inhales cold and dry air is the cause of asthma by exercise. This disorder is also sometimes referred to as "exercise-induced bronchoconstriction" (BIE), rather than as "exercise-induced asthma" (EIA).

3. - Occupational asthma: it is triggered in the workplace due to the sensitivity to substances present in the site. It is very common in people who work in factories of detergents, bakeries and similar.

Traditional medicine

Bronchodilators are fast-acting medications that open the airways and help to clear mucus. Long-term medications are often corticosteroids, such as Symbicort, Flovent, and Advair. Steroids are powerful drugs and can be dangerous if used improperly.

If you are asthmatic, unfortunately you already know the symptoms that this causes, you know what it is to feel that kind of drowning, of not being able to breathe deeply. But we have great news for you, there is the possibility of treating it in a healthier way, if, as you read, it can be relieved with cannabis.

Cannabis helps decrease inflammation, and also helps the ducts of the respiratory system to reopen. When this happens the affected person begins to perceive that the sensation of shortness of breath is reduced and also reduces the cough.

Asthma and Cannabis

In simple words, cannabis acts as a bronchodilator instead of a bronchoconstrictor. A study in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics showed that cannabinoids protect the lungs.

Using guinea pigs, the researchers measured the ability of cannabinoids to inhibit bronchoconstriction. The researchers in the study specifically analyzed the cannbinoids THC, CBD, CBG, CBC, CBD-A and THC-V. Surprisingly, the study revealed that THC and THC-V were the only cannabinoids to inhibit constriction, with THC being the most effective.

The results of this study are amazing considering that bronchoconstriction is one of the biggest problems that affect people with asthma.

During an asthma attack, the bronchi contract. As a result, oxygen flow is severely restricted. Cannabis helps open these airways.

Several studies have shown that cannabis improves bronchoconstriction. Dr. Rachel Knox, co-founder of American Cannabinoid Clinics, spoke about the effectiveness of the plant for asthma patients and said: "THC is actually a very powerful bronchodilator and that is exactly what we need when we are treating asthma".

"When we are suffering from an asthma attack, the bronchial tubes squeeze themselves, which makes breathing difficult. Then, THC comes in, open those bronchial tubes and we can breathe better. "

Way to Consume Cannabis

Although the most popular way to consume cannabis is smoked, there are other more advisable options. Cannabis can be consumed orally using a CBD oil, vaporizers can be used, among other ways.

CBD oil or vaporization with it can bring relief to asthma patients in many ways. If the organism gets used to receiving a daily dose of CBD, asthma can be controlled more easily. Patients with asthma can use the CBD also thinking about getting improvements throughout the body, and incidentally, in their lungs.

Asthma is a delicate disease that complicates the lives of those who suffer from it. With millions of patients around the world, it is important to continue research to find new ways to treat asthma and thus provide relief to those affected.

The CBD is giving new hope to those who cannot adequately handle their asthma with medication or do not want to do so because of possible side effects.

The use of cannabis for asthmatic people can be very beneficial. Would you like to know more about it?
